How Auto Shed Plans works
Auto Shed Plans turns an idea for a new farm building into the drawings and paperwork you need — without drawing it by hand. It is free and runs in your browser; your plan stays on your device.
Start my plan1. Find your farm
Type your postcode, or the farm's name and village. An aerial photo of the farm loads at true scale, and the council is filled in for you. Nearby roads, houses and airfields are read from OpenStreetMap for the planning checks.
2. Draw the building on the photo
Press Draw building and drag a rectangle over the spot where it will go. If your yard is at an angle, turn the map so the buildings line up. Add the farm buildings that are already there too, so the statement can say how the new one fits in.
3. Pick the style
Choose a general purpose barn, open-fronted machinery store, hay and straw barn, livestock building, grain store, farm workshop, stables or a lean-to. The frame, bays, eaves and ridge heights, roof sheets, rooflights, concrete panels, cladding, colour and doors are set to suit — then change anything you like.
4. Look at it
See every side in the elevations, the roof from above, and walk round it in 3D standing on the aerial photo of your farm. On a phone you can see it full size in the field through the camera.
5. Get the paperwork
- Planning check: whether you can use prior approval (Part 6, Class A) or need full planning permission, with every limit checked.
- A3 drawings: location plan, site plan on the aerial photo, block plan with roads and houses, floor plan, elevations and roof plan, with title blocks.
- Supporting statement: the farm, why the building is needed, its siting and design, access and drainage — ready to edit and download as Word.
- Construction: the Building Regulations exemption check, a frame cross-section, a foundation layout, a specification and quantities for pricing.
